State-of-the-Art Surgical Monitoring
Ensuring the health and safety of your pet during surgery is of the utmost concern and requires adherence to strict protocols that reflect the highest standards of veterinary care. At Animal Medical Center of Jefferson City, we use anesthetic protocols tailored to the individual patient's needs.
Throughout every surgery we perform, a dedicated anesthetist will monitor your pet's heart, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, and core body temperature. By keeping a very close watch during your pet's surgery, we ensure that heatlh risks are kept to a minimum and that your pet is undergoing a completely painless procedure.
Anesthesia Protocol
For most surgical procedures, anesthesia is required. While under anesthesia, your pet is continuously monitored by both our staff and specialized monitoring technology. We use anesthetic protocols that are tailored to your pet's needs, and a dedicated anesthetist is present for each procedure
Comprehensive Pain Management
Aside from causing discomfort, pain can have many other detrimental effects on your pet's mind and body. Pain slows healing, compromises immune function, decreases activity and causes behavioral changes such as aggression, anxiety and depression. Pain worsens diseases like arthritis and potentially some cancers. It also interferes with the bond between you and your pet. We believe strongly in the use of pain relievers for the comfort of patients. We prescribe pain medications based on the needs of the patient, ranging from constant rate infusions to combination oral medications.
Postoperative Care
Following any surgical procedure, your pet's well-being will be the focus of a full-time pet nurse, Emily. The nurse will care for, medicate and feed your companion based on recommendations from your pet's doctor. Emily works closely with each doctor to report any post-op patient needs or concerns as they arise.
Before your pet is discharged from the hospital, you will be provided with detailed information on how to administer any medication and properly care for your pet at home after surgery. We are always happy to answer any questions or concerns you have once you get your pet home.
